‘Jeevan’ Jamshedpur extends support drive to ease college admission stress

Jamshedpur: With the college admission season in full swing, the emotional burden on students and parents has intensified. In response to this growing concern, Jeevan Suicide Prevention Centre, Jamshedpur has launched an awareness initiative aimed at reducing the stress and anxiety often associated with higher education admissions.

The initiative urges parents not to exert undue pressure on their children during this critical phase. Whether it is confusion around career choices, difficulty in selecting the right college, or the weight of expectations, Jeevan’s message is clear—support, not pressure, is the need of the hour.

“Every year during admission time, we witness many students facing severe mental breakdowns. We must understand that each student has unique abilities and dreams. Our goal is to provide emotional support so that they can make informed and confident decisions,” a Jeevan representative said.

The organisation stresses that the role of parents should go beyond logistical support in the admission process. Parents must acknowledge the emotions and dilemmas that their children experience. Often, social pressure to secure high marks or gain admission into prestigious institutions can lead to feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and in some cases, depression or suicidal thoughts.

To address this, Jeevan is actively conducting awareness sessions in schools, colleges, and local communities. These sessions highlight the importance of mental wellbeing and encourage open conversations around stress, fear of failure, and societal expectations.

Jeevan’s efforts underscore that the crisis is not solely a student’s struggle but a societal issue that places immense emphasis on academic performance and competition. The initiative is part of a broader mission to bring mental health into mainstream dialogue and reassure students that their lives matter far more than grades or college rankings.

Students or parents experiencing stress can contact Jeevan at 9297777499 or 9297777500, or seek in-person counselling at Jeevan Centre, 25 Q Road, Bistupur, Jamshedpur. With its long-standing commitment to suicide prevention and mental health advocacy, Jeevan continues to be a lifeline for individuals in emotional distress.
