Jamshedpur: Suicide prevention centre, Jeevan Jamshedpur, released practical guidelines on Tuesday to help students manage mounting academic pressure as board examinations approach. The advisory emphasizes that exams represent only one part of life and encourages students to maintain emotional balance through healthy study habits and a positive mindset.

Jeevan advises students to adopt disciplined routines, including creating realistic study plans and focusing on thorough revision rather than relying solely on guidebooks. The center highlights the critical role of physical health, urging students to prioritize adequate sleep, nutritious food, and regular breaks. According to the advisory, taking a 10-minute break after every 50 minutes of focused study significantly improves concentration and reduces mental fatigue.

The guidelines specifically caution against last-minute cramming, selective studying, and comparing progress with peers—behaviours that often trigger unnecessary anxiety. Jeevan also reminds students not to let the outcome of a single paper discourage them, advocating for consistency throughout the entire examination period.

Crucially, the centre encourages any student feeling overwhelmed by fear or distress to speak openly with parents, teachers, or counsellors. Reaching out for support is a sign of strength, Jeevan maintains, as it seeks to prevent exam-related stress from escalating into a mental health crisis.

Jeevan has cautioned students against negative conversations and distractions, advising them to study in calm environments and focus on their own preparation strategy. They have also been reminded not to let the outcome of one paper affect their performance in subsequent exams and to remain consistent throughout the examination period.

Do’s

  • Set out a study plan and stick to it. Organise the things you want to do and fix your timetable according to it.
