Jamshedpur, April 9: Students suicide is a serious cause of concern, particularly in Jamshedpur. Jeevan, a well known suicide prevention outfit of the town invited Principals of all major Schools of Jamshedpur to have an interactive and experience sharing session, in order to plan better strategies for making school environment ‘stress free zones’.
Ms Vandana Mathur, wife of Jusco MD Ashish Mathur, presided over the Session, held at a city hotel on Sunday. Ronnie D’ Costa, a social worker welcomed the Chief Guest and the participating principals of 25 schools.
Vandana Mathur, at the outset lauded the various pro-active programs being arranged for schools by Jeevan, which contributed in bringing down the student suicide rate from 21.5% in 2010 to 9.6% in 2016. She brought out the various causes of stress and depression among students in changed environment.
She emphasized the need to conduct tailor made programs by all the schools for their students, parents and teachers on regular basis to contain suicides every year.
The Principals of Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS), Sakchi and Motilal Nehru Public School (MNPS), Sakchi, the regular winners of Jeevan Trophies for making best endeavours, shared their experience and various programs, they have been conducting in their respective schools. They have even been inviting famous Psychiatrists to clarify several emotion related issues and make students aware of their strengths.
Ms Gurprit, Volunteer of Jeevan interacted with the principals to decide the type of programs, they want to be conducted by Jeevan for their Schools. The first such joint program for schools will be held on 30th April on “Good Parenting” in changed environment. Realizing well the importance of special programs, Schools on their own will also arrange in-house de-stressing programs, which will reflect their specific needs.
