JEE Mains 2025 paper pattern changes: 75 questions instead of 90

Jamshedpur, Jan 2: The paper pattern for JEE Mains 2025 has undergone significant changes, affecting how students will approach the exam. Starting from Session-1 (to be held between 22nd to 31st January 2025), the total number of questions has been reduced from 90 to 75. Previously, candidates were required to answer 75 out of 90 questions, but now all 75 questions will be mandatory to solve. Additionally, the optional questions from Section B have been eliminated, leaving only five compulsory questions to be answered, making scoring a perfect 100% a more challenging task.

This change marks the end of the optional question system, which was introduced during the pandemic period to ease the pressure on students. However, experts suggest that this revision will make the paper tougher. According to P. Pandey, a JEE expert, “The new system requires candidates to solve all questions without any options, and there is also negative marking. Therefore, candidates must be very careful while attempting questions.”

JEE Mains 2025 will now have 25 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics instead of 30 in the previous format. This reduction aims to streamline the exam while maintaining its level of difficulty.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the city intimation slip by the second week of January. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in for updates. The admit card will be issued two days before the exam begins.

Students should follow strategic exam-taking methods: solve easier questions first, avoid wasting time on difficult ones, and be cautious with negative marking. Proper time management and preparation will be key to success in the revised exam pattern.
