Jamshedpur, June 10: Students of the Steel City have once again proved their merit in the IIT- JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Advanced examination. About 200 students from Jamshedpur have cracked the JEE, the results for which were announced on Sunday morning at around 10 am by IIT Kanpur.
Aayush Agarwal (18), a student of DBMS English School emerged as the State topper with an all-India rank of 60. He took coaching from Prerna Classes in Bistupur and opted for test series from Narayana IIT Academy, Sakchi.
The second spot in the state was bagged by Shan-ul-haq of DPS Ranchi with AIR 111.
Out of 856 students who appeared for JEE Advanced, the gatewary to the IITs this year from Jamshedpur, around 250 could make it to the final of all India rankings.
Of the total city students who cleared the exam only 10 per cent are girls.
More than 50 students of Jamshedpur got AIR under 4000.
A resident of Dimna Road in Mango, an elated Aayush said, “I am really very happy as my hard efforts have brought fruitful results. I am keeping my fingers crossed to take admission in computer science at IIT-Mumbai.”
Aayush who scored 283 of 360 in JEE Advance had earlier got 97th rank in the JEE Mains conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The JEE Main 2018 offline exam was held on April 8 whereas the online exam was conducted on April 15 and April 16.
Rahul Kumar Tiwary, a student of Jamshedpur Public School, Baridih, scored AIR 122 and bagged the second position in Kolhan Division and third in the state.
He was the state topper with an all-India rank of 22 in the JEE Mains. Rahul scored 268 out of 360.
“I was hopeful to be among the top 50,” said the 17-year-old, who too is a resident of Dimna Road in Mango. He expressed happiness over his performance. He is aiming to study electrical engineering in IIT-Mumbai
Shubham Kar, a student of DAV Public School, Bistupur cracked the JEE Advanced securing a rank of 243. Resident of Sonari, Shubham scored 242 out of an aggregate of 360 and was ranked third in Kolhan. Shubham had got 72 rank in the JEE Mains.
Expressing his views on this year�s results Pramod Dubey, director of Prerna Classes, one of the premier coaching institutes of the city, said that he is satisfied with the over all result but he was expecting much better numbers. “We are happy with the overall performance. The trend was a bit different and easy going this time,” said Dubey.
As many as 1.55 lakh students had appeared for the entrance examination for the premium IITs this year. Also, this year, IITs would be admitting about 800 girls to various IITs in the supernumerary seats created to bring in gender parity.
18,138 candidates have been declared qualified in the JEE(Advanced) exam and will be eligible for admission IITs. A total of 11,279 seats are on the offer this year.
Also, the counselling schedule has been released and would commence from June 15.
Maximum number of candidates have qualified from Delhi Zone. The zone wise breakup of qualified candidates is – 5,072 from IIT Delhi zone, 3,595 from IIT Madras zone, 2,936 from IIT Bombay zone, 2,160 from IIT Kanpur zone, 1,736 from IIT Kharagpur zone, 1,800 from IIT Roorkee zone, 839 from IIT Guwahati zone.
Admission to IITs is conducted in two stages. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) first conducts Joint Entrance Examination (Mains) and qualified candidates can then appear in JEE(Advanced) examination conducted by one of the IITs. Candidates who qualify advanced exam can now take part in seat allocation process.
