JDPKS asks Jamshedpur puja committees to ensure installation of CCTV cameras at pandals

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samiti (JDPKS), the apex body which monitors Durga Puja has asked puja committees to ensure installation of CCTV cameras in puja pandals for strict vigil.

” We have asked all puja committees for ensuring incident free Durga Puja. The Puja organisers have been also asked to make proper provisions for meeting any fire mishap,” said Ram Babu Singh, general secretary of JDPKS.

He said that all community pujas  irrespective of their budget will have to install CCTV cameras and constantly monitor and record the movements of the public.

Notably, JDPKS which is monitoring the Pujas in steel city for many years now earlier used to ask only prominent pandals that drew  massive crowds  to install CCTV camers, but since last year the body is asking even modest puja committees for installing the safety gadget.

The city for last several years has been witnessing the swell in the strength of the puja revellers and at the same time many of the puja pandals have been installing CCTV’s for obvious purpose without any intervention of the law enforcing agencies.

Most big-budget pandals, such as the ones by Thakur Pyara Singh Dhurender Singh Club and Sonari Central Durga Puja Committee, already use CCTVs. However, Sabuj Kalyan Sangh and Jamshedpur Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee (Bengal Club), which also attract people in large numbers, are not well-monitored.

The entire East Singhbhum district has been divided into 25 zones (in terms of police stations) and six super-zones (cluster of police stations) during a joint meeting of the district administration on law and order during the festive season (during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath).

We want to ensure peaceful and safe festive season. As a step in this regard the magistrates and the concerned police officials will be visiting the spot along with videographer and conduct complete photography of the spot. This would be used by the police to nail the culprits and use the video as evidence against them during the probe and judicial procedures, said a police official.

All the puja committees (nearly 300 in city) have been asked to provide recordings from CCTV cameras to the administration whenever required.  The zonal and super-zonal officials have already been asked to conduct meeting with puja committees every week and communicate administration directive as and when required, noted a police official.
