Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Bangbhashi Samanvay Samiti (JBSS), on the occasion of International Mother Tongue Day, handed a five-point charter of demands addressed to the state governor, to the BDO.
The charter includes immediate implementation of Bengali as the medium of instruction from classes 1 to 12, immediate distribution of all text books to students of the afore stated classes, provision of adequate Bengali teaching staff, taking 1990 as base year all Bengali medium schools converted into Hindi medium schools be reinstated to their original format and institution of a Bangla Academy for propagation of the language.
A literary meet was organized in the evening under the joint aegis of JBSS and Amal Sangha. Floral tributes were offered to the martyrs. Bikash Mukherjee spoke on the sacrifices of martyrs and about the rich culture and heritage of the Bengali language. Bani Prasad Mukherjee rendered patriotic songs.
Among others present at the function included Sandip Sinha Chowdhury, Santosh Pati, Anita Parit, Dwij Pado Parit, Dhiraj Jana, Nepal Das, Bhato Gorai, Ganesh Das, Chandan Dutta, Hrishikesh Ghosh, Debasish Lahiri, Sonia Mukherjee, jayashree, Madhumita Banerjee, Bappaditya, Manoranjan and Biswanath Gupta.
