Janegora and Bonga Dungri-B crowned Kati Tournament winners

Jamshedpur, March 16: Janegora (Potka Block), Jharkhand and Bonga Dungri-B, Jharkhand clinched the top slot in the finals of the Kati 2015 Tournament played at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, Karandih on Sunday.

Janegora secured a thrilling win in `senior category�, while Bonga Dungri-B emerged victorious in `junior category�.

The tourney, organised by Tata Steel�s Tribal Culture Society as part of its efforts to promote tribal sports, witnessed participation of as many as 450 teams from tribal-dominated regions of Jharkhand and Odisha. In the finals, 56 teams�32 in senior category and 24 in junior category�clashed for the title.

Chief guest Menka Sardar, MLA, Potka, felicitated the winners and runners up by giving away trophies and track suits. Traditional musical instruments (mandar) were also handed over to the winning team and the runner-up teams in senior category.

Teams from Odisha � Ram Ram Rakhasai and Raghunathpur � were the first runner-up in both the categories, whereas teams from Jharkhand ended up as the second and the third runner-up in the two categories.

Anand Sen, President, TQM and Steel Business, Tata Steel; Biren Bhuta, Chief, CSR, Tata Steel; Urmila Ekka, Hony Secretary, TCS, Shrimanti Sen, a social worker and Fagu Soren, Former Head � Tribal and Harijan Welfare Cell, were Guests of Honour on the occasion.

The tournament which kicked off on February 3, 2015, had matches played at as many as 16 locations across Jharkhand and Odisha, drawing participation of nearly 4, 500 players.

Kati is one of the tribal sports, traditionally played by youth from Santhal community.
