Jamshedpur, April 12: It is a certainty that the lockdown period will be extended till the end of the month. At least, that is the legitimate step that is to be adopted by the government while this feature is being written early today morning. By the time this goes to print, some directive similar to the observation will have been passed and notified in the media.
While it is true that had not the lockdown been imposed when it was, the coronavirus infection would have accounted for a higher toll in the country it is also a fact that most of the cases of Corona positive and the viral deaths are the results of personal negligence emanating out of deliberate follies.
This observation becomes more obvious in our beloved city of joy — Jamshedpur. In spite of social, administrative and police requests, wayward people of all ages, sexes and breeds continue to flout lockdown norms and move about purposelessly only to invite and spread the dreaded virus.
For such beings, handwash, sanitizer and bath are meaningless precautions, that is, if they really even practice such hygienic instructions. Pardon me for observing this but that is a fact worth mentioning and upholding one of the many follies of an awry human race.
As mentioned in an earlier column by this author, it is more than time now that the friends in khaki really started using the baton and booking the antisocial (what else) viruses more dangerous than the corona for jail terms in special cells away from other criminals. These special breed of criminals need quarantined cells for the protection of other mortals.
It is a sad and painful commentary on human behaviour that in spite of being fully aware of the protective guidelines, these ‘undeterred’ scums of society risk their own and others’ lives by going out, unprotected and for unsolicited purposes. These are the virtual viruses that need ‘taming’ where nothing else but the police baton will work.
It is these undisciplined folks who have been among those who have been responsible for the mounting toll of corona positive cases as a result of which deadline extension of lockdown has been contemplated. It is high time that these harmful elements are locked down saving a threatened generation from the holocaust of COVID — 19. There is still time for redemption of the human value system and repulsion of the threat to annihilation of life forms. Stay safe. Keep others safe. Await a normal tomorrow.
