Jamshedpur, Feb. 20: Varun Aaron, the speedster from Jamshedpur was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 2.80 Crores in IPL 10 during the auction held in Bengaluru on Monday.

A product of the MRF Pace Foundation, Varun has earlier been part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad. He made his IPL debut in 2011 for Delhi Daredevils and played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 9.

Interestingly, the seemingly inconsistent Varun, who has been out of the Indian team for a while, was picked up by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for a whopping INR 2.8 crores after he had set his base price at INR 30 lakhs.

“Varun Aaron gained just because he kept his base price in the range of Rs 30 lakh while Ishant who probably has more quality failed to attract just because of his Rs 2 crore base price,” an IPL team top boss, who was at the auction table said on Monday.

This left-handed batsman from Jharkhand, Saurabh Tiwary has been picked by Mumbai Indian for Rs 30 lakh. Jamshedpur lad has been a part of the first edition and was rated highly at a certain point of time, but then he faded away quickly. Reckoned to be a big hitter, the hits never came, the misses increased. That was that. But he continued to impress in the domestic season and is one of the leading run scorers in Ranji for Jharkhand.

Saurabh was picked by Mumbai Indians in 2008 season and became a regular player for them in the IPL 2010, where he was dubbed as a left-handed version of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In 2014 IPL auction, he was signed by Delhi Daredevils for 70 lakhs Indian rupees.

In 2016 IPL playing for Pune, he scored two promising half century against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians.

Jharkhand run machine from Jamshedpur Ishank Jaggi has been sold to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 10 lakh. Jaggi was drafted in the Indian Premier League auction in the last moment on Saturday for the Monday auction which was held in Bengaluru. On Wednesday, 28-year-old Ishank Jaggi played a match winning innings to help East Zone clinch the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which helped him reap its benefits within a couple of days.

Whether it was Jaggis consistent run of form in the domestic league or his elegant and powerful batting in the Syed Mushtq Ali Trophy; it seems the Jharkhand boy has at last managed to convince people of the talent he posses.

Jaggi is currently the third-highest run scorer in the T20 tournament this season, with 148 runs from four matches and a highest score of 90. He averages 74 and has scored his runs at a strike rate of 156, while he also has a couple of half-centuries.

Jaggis base price was set at INR 10 lakhs in the IPL 2017 Auction list. In the domestic season, he amassed 890 runs in 10 Ranji Trophy matches at an average of 59.33 with four centuries to his name. From 51 T20s he has amassed 1233 runs at an average of 31.61 with the highest score of 108 not out.

However, the last time the Jharkhand batsman played an IPL match was in 2012 for the Deccan Chargers. He has also featured for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

England all rounder Ben Stokes led the charge of the fast bowlers, going for 14.5 crore as the franchises opted to boost their fast bowling arsenals for IPL 2017.

Stokes was picked up by Rising Pune Supergiant’s (RSP) after beginning at a base price of Rs. 2 crore.
