Jamshedpur’s Tata Zoo opens new enclosure for blackbuck and nilgai

New animals to be introduced, zoo to be developed as educational center: Chanakya Chaudhary

Jamshedpur, Jan 8: Tata Steel Zoological Park has opened new home of antelopes (Blackbuck and Nilgai). The new enclosure was inaugurated by Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel, and President, Tata Steel Zoological Park in presence of Captain Amitabh, Hon. Secretary of Tata Steel Zoological Society, Ritu Raj Sinha, MD, Tata Steel UISL and other senior officials.

In line with the directives of the Central Zoo Authority, significant changes have been made to enhance the zoo’s facilities.

The newly constructed enclosure is a part of Tata Zoo commitment to providing enriched habitats for its animal residents, promoting conservation, and enhancing the visitor experience. Spread across a sprawling area, the enclosure has been meticulously designed to mimic the natural habitat of Blackbucks and Nilgais, offering them a safe and comfortable environment. The enclosure features a variety of naturalistic elements, including grassy meadows, shaded areas, and a secure yet open design that allows visitors to observe the animals in a serene environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Chanakya Chaudhary said, “Tata Steel Zoological Park has always been at the forefront of wildlife conservation and education. The inauguration of the Blackbuck and Nilgai enclosure is another step in our efforts to create awareness about the need to protect and conserve wildlife. This initiative underscores Tata Steel’s long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability.

He stated that further development work, including additional enclosures, will be completed by the end of the year. Future initiatives will depend on an assessment of available funds. He also mentioned ongoing discussions to introduce new animals to the zoo, which is being developed as an educational center for visitors.

The event also witnessed participation from members of the Tata Steel Zoological Society, zoo staff, and media personnels.
