Jamshedpur’s Souryadipta shines at Balangir Open Chess Tournament

Jamshedpur:  The 2nd All India Balangir Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, held from December 23rd to 27th, 2023, at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, Balangir Branch, witnessed intense competition among 146 players.

 

The tournament comprised a total of 9 rounds, showcasing the strategic prowess of the participants. Among the standout performers was Souryadipta Sarkar, securing an impressive 13th position and claiming the main prize. Resident of Sonari locality in Jamshedpur, Sarkar won a cash award of Rs 2000.

 

The coaching expertise of International Master Neeraj Kumar Mishra and FIDE Arbiter Chandan Kumar Prasad played a pivotal role in sharpening the skills of the players from East Singhbhum District. Their guidance contributed to the overall success of the participants, reflecting the region’s growing prominence in the world of chess.

 

The prizes were presented by the chief guest Balangir MP Sangeeta Singh Deo, who lauded the efforts of the players and coaches in making the tournament a memorable event.
