Jamshedpur: Ritwik Mehta, an alumnus of Loyola School, has secured the 115th All India Rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2023, one of the toughest and most prestigious examinations in the country.
Ritwik’s achievement is not only a personal triumph but also a moment of celebration for Jharkhand, as he continues to inspire thousands of civil service aspirants from the region.
Currently undergoing training as an IPS probationer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, Ritwik had earlier cleared the Civil Services Examination to become an IPS officer. With his latest rank, he is now eligible for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), fulfilling a dream nurtured over years of dedication and focused preparation.

In 2024, Ritwik had secured the 520th rank in the UPSC examination. With diligent preparation, Ritwik reappeared in the UPSC examination, showcasing his determination and academic acumen.
Ritwik began his academic journey at Loyola School, Jamshedpur, where he laid the foundation of a strong educational background. He later graduated with a degree in Geography from Delhi University’s prestigious Kirori Mal College. Ritwik pursued his UPSC preparation from Delhi, immersing himself in rigorous study and competitive discipline.
Ritwik’s success is deeply rooted in the unwavering support of his family. His mother, Priyanka Verma, is the publisher of Spardha Prakashan, a well-known name among competitive exam aspirants. His father, Ajay Kumar, a former forest area officer and director of Spardha Prakashan, played a pivotal role in shaping Ritwik’s preparation strategy.
Speaking about his journey, Ritwik credited his success to the guidance and motivation provided by his parents as well as the valuable content and books of Spardha Prakashan. His story is an inspiring blend of hard work, family values, and perseverance.
Remarkably, Ritwik is not the only achiever in the family. His younger brother, Vedant Verma, secured All India Rank 29 in the NDA Examination, also conducted by UPSC. Vedant is currently serving as a Captain in the Indian Army, posted at Ambala Cantonment. The Verma family’s dedication to serving the nation has become a source of inspiration in academic and defence circles alike.
The UPSC Civil Services Examination is widely regarded as the most challenging competitive exam in India, with lakhs of aspirants appearing each year for just a few hundred seats in top services like the IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS. Ritwik’s 115th rank places him among the top echelons of candidates who will soon be entrusted with leadership roles in India’s governance system.
