Jamshedpur, Oct 3: Renowned city bhajan singer and lyricist Rajendra Sah Raj has composed an ode, also termed ‘Chalisa’ that includes 239 names of the Divine Mother, Durga. This is perhaps the first ever composition of Devi Durga that mentions 239 references of the Divine Mother.
Like other Chalisas that glorify other deities, this Rajendra Sah Raj composition has rhyming couplets (Dohas) and quatrains (Chaupals) and can be recited or sung in line with other Chalisas.
It may be mentioned that lyricist-singer Rajendra Sah Raj, whose mother tongue is Bhojpuri, is equally at home with Hindi and Bengali languages. He is also known for translating Rabindra Sangeet and rendering the Bard’s compositions in Bhojpuri. His musical CDs that comprise his Bhojpuri songs have become a hit and his current Durga Chalisa is treading on the same path of popularity.
