Jamshedpur, Feb 3: In the much- talked about Nagadih mass lynching case of Bagbera, the prime accused Doctor Mardi has moved the court seeking bail after surrendering nearly eight years after the incident.
Doctor Mardi filed his bail application before the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge–I (ADJ-I).
The case relates to the brutal killing of four people in Bagbera’s Nagadih area on the evening of May 18, 2017, following rumours of child lifting.
A mob allegedly attacked three youths from Jugsalai Naya Bazar—Vikas Verma, Gautam Verma and Gangesh—beating them to death with sticks and stones.
During attempts to save them, their grandmother Ramsakhi Devi was critically injured and later succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH).
In October 2025, the ADJ-I court awarded life imprisonment to five convicts—Rajarama Hansda, Rengo Purti, Gopal Hansda, Sunil Sardar and Tara Mandal—after holding them guilty in the case.
Doctor Mardi, however, had remained absconding since the beginning of the trial.
Following the sentencing of the five convicts, Doctor Mardi surrendered before the ADJ-I court on January 20 this year, and was sent to judicial custody.
He is currently lodged in jail and has now approached the court seeking release on bail.
