Jamshedpur’s Kadma emerges as new hotspot, eight containment zones come up

Jamshedpur: The Kadma area of Steel City has turned out to be a new Covid hotspot with over 80 positive cases during the last 48 hours. Soon after the cases were reported, Kadma market was sealed completely on Saturday. About 15 fresh cases were reported today. On Friday 30 positive cases were found in the market.

With the surge in cases as many as eight containment zones were declared in residential areas close to Kadma market. Local civic body – Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC ) on Saturday put up barricades from all sides preventing entry of people to Kadma market. The authorities also put barricades on the Kadma main road restricting movement of vehicles.

Health department officials confirmed that Kadma locality has around 660 active cases making it the top Covid hotspot. Telco with 530 active cases is the second hotspot followed by Mango ( 410 active cases) , Sakchi ( 400 active cases) and Sonari which has 375 active cases.

Ravi Bharti, city manager of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee said that around 450 shops have been shut at the Kadma market and that the vegetable vendors and fruit sellers have been shifted to the adjoining Ganesh Puja  Maidan.

As people continue to violate the Covid-19 guidelines despite severe second wave, Jamshedpur Police on Saturday launched an awareness-cum-enforcement drive for wearing masks in public places across the city. The drive was led by SSP M Tamil Vanan and City SP Subhash Chandra Jat.

“I appeal to all the residents to wear masks whenever they leave their home. Together, we will defeat Corona,” said SSP Vanan. He said that a mask is must for everyone while stepping out of home. Mask is not a substitute for a helmet. Both are required while riding.

The drive was aimed to create awareness on social distancing and wearing masks, in market places and busy areas.

Meanwhile, Jamshedpur police have announced to register FIRs against persons found roaming on roads without wearing masks. The police will register FIRs under the Disaster Management Act and other sections of the IPC.

The administration has made it mandatory for everyone to wear a mask (either three-layered or made of cloth) if they are outside their homes. And those violating this rule are being booked by police
