Jamshedpur, Feb 28: In a significant ruling, the Jharkhand High Court has paved the way for residents of Cable Town and Cable Basti to receive electricity connections from Tata Steel UISL (TSUISL). The verdict, delivered on Friday, instructed residents to apply for power connections individually, reinforcing the long-standing stance of Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy. This decision has provided much-needed relief to the residents, who have been struggling to secure legitimate power supply due to administrative roadblocks.
Expressing his satisfaction with the ruling, Roy stated that for the last three years, he had been advocating that Tata Steel had no difficulty in providing electricity connections to Cable Town and Cable Basti. However, instead of acknowledging this, officials continuously demanded a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the resolution professional of the bankrupt Cable Company, a document that was neither issued nor likely to be issued in the future. The High Court’s verdict has now validated his assertions, leaving Tata Steel with no option but to provide electricity connections to the residents.
Following the court’s decision, senior officials from Tata Steel’s Land Department confirmed their acceptance of the ruling and assured Rai that they would soon initiate the process of providing electricity connections. They are currently awaiting the certified copy of the High Court’s order, which is expected to be uploaded on the court’s website within the next couple of days. Once received, Tata Steel will proceed with the necessary steps to facilitate power supply to the residents.
Congratulating the residents of Cable Town and Cable Basti, Roy expressed his joy, stating that their long-awaited demand had finally been met. He acknowledged the patience and perseverance shown by the residents throughout this prolonged struggle. He also recalled that three years ago, through his efforts, every household in the Cable area had successfully received drinking water connections from Tata Steel. With the electricity issue now resolved, he emphasized that justice had been served. Additionally, he extended his gratitude to Tata Steel management and the writ petitioner for their contributions in achieving this milestone.

“The verdict of the High Court is the result of our long-fought battle. We worked as a team and this has led to our victory. The initiative was taken by the petitioner Vinod Singh a few years back, we backed him as a team and this made all the difference. The decision has been in our favour. We are relieved today. We are confident that the availability of electricity will pave the way for overall development and improve living standards in Cable Town and Cable Basti. We had demanded individual power connections for the residents so that the consumers could get the direct benefits. We are hopeful that the decision will pave the way for better tomorrow”.
