Jamshedpur’s Avtar Singh to participate in World Master Athletics Championships in Finland

Jamshedpur, June 23: Seven-time national cycling champion Avtar Singh of Jamshedpur will represent Jharkhand at the 24th World Master Athletics Outdoor Championships to be held in Tampere, Finland from June 29 to July 10, 2022.

He will participate in javelin throw event in 70 plus age category.

72-year-old Singh had won gold medal in the javelin throw event in the 70 plus age group at the 42nd National Master Athletics Championships held in Chennai this year.

He qualified for the World Master Athletics Championships on account of his performance in the National Master Athletics Championships.

Inderjit Singh, President of Masters Athletics Association of Jharkhand felicitated Avtar Singh at a function held in Telco on Wednesday.

Present on the occasion were Gurdev Singh, SK Tomar, Shyam Kumar Sharma and others.

Avtar Singh also runs Jeevika, a school for intellectually impaired. N Sai Krishna of Jeevika who has been coached by international athlete Avtar Singh, won silver in 200 meters race and bronze medal in 100 meters race at the World Summer Games was felicitated. The competition was held in Abu Dhabi this year.
