Jamshedpur’s Andhra School student drowns at Ganjia Barrage in Gamharia

Seraikela/Jamshedpur, April 22: In a heartbreaking incident on Wednesday, a 17-year-old student, Fahad Rahman, drowned while bathing at Ganjia Barrage under the Gamharia police station area.
The tragedy occurred when five students, who had reportedly left school without informing authorities, visited the barrage for an outing.
According to reports, the group entered the water around 11 a.m., but soon drifted into deeper sections and began struggling. Local residents, witnessing the distress, rushed to their rescue and managed to save four of the boys. Unfortunately, Fahad could not be rescued in time and drowned.
Fahad Rahman, a resident of Dhatkidih in Jamshedpur, was a Class XII student at Andhra School.
His untimely death has left family members and the local community in shock.
On receiving information, the Gamharia police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the students had left school premises without permission before heading to the barrage.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding safety measures and monitoring at the barrage site.
Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter.
