Secures 4th rank in Classic and Rapid segments
Jamshedpur: Sri Lanka hosted the Commonwealth Chess Championship from August 28 to September 5, 2024, where Adhiraj Mitra, a promising young player from Jamshedpur, represented the state in the Under-12 category. Adhiraj, a student of Loyola School and a member of the East Singhbhum District Chess Association, delivered commendable performances across all three formats of the game.
In both the Classic and Rapid formats, Adhiraj secured fourth place, while in the Blitz category, he finished in fifth. His achievements at the international event have brought pride to his home state.
Manish Kumar, Secretary of the Jharkhand State Chess Association and Joint Secretary of the All India Chess Association, accompanied the Indian delegation to Sri Lanka as a representative.

Secretary of the East Singhbhum District Chess Association, Narendra Kumar Tiwari, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Adhiraj, expressing optimism about his future in chess. “We are proud of Adhiraj’s performance, and we hope he continues to excel in the coming years,” he said.
Adhiraj Mitra’s participation and success at the Commonwealth Chess Championship mark a significant milestone for chess in Jharkhand.
Commonwealth Chess Championship saw participation from five countries: India, Mauritius, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Zambia. A total of 282 players competed across 18 different categories, making it a highly competitive and prestigious event.
India continued to shine in the Blitz category, securing 11 gold, 15 silver, and 8 bronze medals. Sri Lanka followed with 5 gold, 2 silver, and 8 bronze medals, with Zambia adding 1 gold to the tally.
