Jamshedpur youth’s body found in Dhatkidih pond, police suspect suicide

Jamshedpur, Nov 7: Panic gripped Dhatkidih-based Mukhi Basti under Bistupur police station area on Friday afternoon after the body of a young man was found floating in a local pond.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Deepak Nag, a resident of Dhatkidih Mukhi Basti.

According to locals, the body was first spotted floating in the pond, following which they immediately alerted the family members.

The relatives reached the spot and informed the Bistupur police.

A team from the police station arrived promptly and, with the help of residents, retrieved the body from the water.

Deepak was rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for medical assistance, but doctors declared him dead after examination.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

According to the Bistupur police station in-charge, initial findings suggest that the case appears to be a suicide.

However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received. The body has been sent for autopsy.

Sources indicate that a possible love affair angle is being probed.

Police are also examining the deceased’s mobile phone and social media activity to trace the circumstances leading to the incident.

Deepak’s death has plunged the neighbourhood into mourning, while his family is devastated.

Police said they are investigating the case from all possible angles.
