Jamshedpur youth shot after birthday party brawl in Mango

Jamshedpur: A 20-year-old youth sustained grievous injuries after being shot by criminals under Ulidih thana area in Mango during the early hours of Monday. The victim, identified as Banti Kumar of Laxman Nagar, Sankosai, suffered a chest injury from a pellet and is reported to be in critical condition.

According to police, the firing took place near Jagdamba Hotel on Dimna Road around 1 am, when Banti was returning home after attending a birthday party in Sakchi. He was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital, later shifted to Tata Main Hospital, and eventually referred to RIMS, Ranchi, where he underwent surgery.

Police officials said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was the fallout of a drunken brawl. “Banti was among a group of youths who were drinking together. A quarrel broke out between him and another youth. The scuffle turned violent, and one of them pulled out a pistol and fired at Banti from close range,” said Ulidih thana officer-in-charge Deepak Kumar Thakur.

The main accused, along with others involved, fled the scene after the firing. Police said CCTV footage from the crime spot has helped them piece together the sequence of events. “The assailant will be arrested soon. Raids are being carried out,” Thakur added.

The shooting has created panic in the Jagdamba Hotel area and in Laxman Nagar, where the victim resides. Residents expressed concern over the rising incidents of crime and demanded stronger police presence in the locality.
