Jamshedpur, March 31: The POCSO court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (V) Sanjay Kumar Upadhyaya sentenced one Vikram Das to life imprisonment for raping and killing his five year old cousin in Burmamines police station area. It also imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on him.
The heinous crime was committed on 4th April 2018 when the five year old girl, Naina, was found missing in Das Basti, Burmamines. After much search, her dead body was recovered from an abandoned quarter in the neighbourhood. Cops had recovered the murder weapon, a knife, from the bushes near the murder scene after three days. They arrested Vikram Das on the basis of suspicion.
According to the prosecution, Vikram would often take Naina to the quarter and sexually abuse her. On the day of the incident, he had taken her there and raped her. When Naina started shouting, he stabbed her multiple times and silenced her forever, the prosecution said.
The gruesome murder had caused a stir with the local residents demanding harshest punishment for the rapist and killer of the minor. The residents of Das Basti had initially rejected police story as per which Vikram was the rapist and killer of her cousin. They had pelted stone on police and also gheraoed the local police station demanding Vikram’s release from detention for interrogation. Police had later released Vikram under public pressure. But after a thorough investigation, cops again arrested him with all the evidence pointing at his involvement, said the prosecution.
