Jamshedpur, June 8: Jamshedpur Women’s University has decided to re-check the answer sheets of BBA fifth-semester students following protests over alleged discrepancies in the examination results. The decision came after students staged a demonstration at the university’s Sidhgora campus on Friday demanding justice.
Students, along with AJSU activists, raised slogans and created a commotion inside the campus, alleging that many students had been unfairly declared failed despite performing well in the examinations. During the protest, a heated argument and minor scuffle reportedly took place between student leaders and the Vice-Chancellor.
Under pressure from the protesting students, the university administration constituted an inquiry committee and agreed to conduct a scrutiny of the answer sheets.
Student leader Deepak Pandey said there are around 150 students in the BBA fifth semester, out of which nearly 60 students have failed. He claimed that students had written detailed answers spanning 20 to 30 pages and were shocked by the results.
Pandey warned that if the issue is not resolved and deserving students are not declared pass after the summer break, the students would launch a stronger agitation against the university administration. He also said that a delegation would soon meet the Governor and submit a written complaint regarding the matter and the alleged behaviour of the Vice-Chancellor.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ela Kumar confirmed that the university has accepted the demand for re-checking the answer sheets. She said scrutiny of the answer sheets is a standard academic procedure and will be carried out as per rules.
