Jamshedpur: The Department of Geography at Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) celebrated World Tourism Day with a series of vibrant educational and cultural events organized by the Shrishti Club. The celebrations included a poster competition, dance competition, seminar, quiz, and ramp walk, showcasing the talents and creativity of the students.
In the poster competition, Rimjhim Kumari (UG Semester 7) won first place, while Deepti Nayak (UG Semester 3) secured second. Jyota (UG Semester 3) won the dance competition with a traditional Jhumar dance of Bengal. Rakhi Satpathy (PG Semester 3) presented insightful views on tourism to win first place in the seminar. The ramp walk highlighted the cultural diversity of India, with Priya Kumari (UG Semester 3) winning first place for presenting Jharkhand’s culture and Jayanti Mahato (PG Semester 3) securing second for Bengal’s culture. A quiz on tourism and cultural heritage saw enthusiastic participation from students.
Teacher Preeti emphasized that tourism promotes cultural diversity, peace, and economic growth, while Somnath highlighted Bengal’s folk song Baul, and Neetu Kumari spoke on Jharkhand’s tourism potential. In the closing session, teacher Aarti Sharma thanked all participants, judges, and organizers.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anjila Gupta said, “Tourism connects cultures, encourages creativity, research, and social awareness, giving students a global perspective.” The event was widely appreciated for its energy, creativity, and educational value, making it a memorable celebration.
