Jamshedpur, Oct 19: Vandana Devi (47), a resident of Bagbera Naya Basti, Road No. 3, succumbed to her injuries at RIMS Hospital, Ranchi, days after being critically injured in a road accident on October 16. She was the wife of the Deputy Secretary of the Nai Jagriti Sangh.
According to reports, Vandana Devi was traveling to Bistupur by auto when the driver suddenly applied the brakes, causing a speeding car (SRB05 BH2361) from behind to collide with it. A bus following the car then rammed into the car.
The victim was initially admitted to Tata Main Hospital, where the family spent nearly Rs 1.6 lakh on treatment before shifting her to RIMS, where she passed away.
Family members have accused the Jugsalai police of pressuring them to blame the auto driver and of neglecting proper investigation. They also alleged police intimidation and lack of support for compensation. Police have seized the auto, car and bus, while the family has demanded a fair probe and adequate compensation from the government.
