Jamshedpur: A woman tried to commit suicide by consuming phenyl near Chief Minister�s residence in Agrico under Sidhgora police station area on Sunday. She was taken to MGM Hospital where her condition was reportedly out of danger.
Sources said the incident took place in the day time when the woman drank phenyl close to the CM�s residence. Commuters and passersby soon tipped off police about the incident. The woman was taken to the government hospital. She alleged that the police officials were not registering her complaint against one Pawan Ravi Das of Bagunhatu who had allegedly raped her and exploited her physically. She also said that her life was in danger, sources said.
At the hospital, the woman said the accused man had promised to marry her and thereafter exploited her physically several times since 2007. She said she had got pregnant several times. The accused had forced her to undergo abortion by giving her medicines and also planned to marry another woman, she told police.
The alleged rape victim said the accused was out on bail in a case lodged against him. She said the accused had threatened her with dire consequences and had also assaulted her with the help of his relatives.
