Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has demanded that the Mango Municipal Corporation address the lingering issue of drinking water supply in the Mango area within a week. After tackling garbage management, Roy emphasized that the next priority is ensuring clean drinking water for all residents.
In a statement, Roy expressed disappointment over the persistent water scarcity in several localities, including Ramnagar, Shyamnagar, Jaiguru Nagar, Khadia Basti, and Bagan Shahi. He revealed that he had a telephonic discussion with the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Mango Municipal Corporation and urged an immediate meeting with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the project’s contractor to identify the bottlenecks in the water supply system.
Roy highlighted that a water tank project initiated five years ago on land acquired from the Forest Department remains non-functional. Despite successful trials showing the system is operational, the tank is yet to be connected to the main pipeline. “Connecting this tank to the main line will ensure adequate water supply to areas like Shantinagar and Krishna Nagar,” Roy said.
He also pointed out that pumps at the intake well and water tanks must remain functional, with additional pumps kept in reserve to avoid interruptions. A previous meeting at his residence with officials outlined these measures, stressing the need for immediate repairs to water pipelines in affected areas.
Work on streamlining the Mango drinking water project is scheduled to begin on Monday, with the goal of resolving all issues and restoring supply within a week. Roy expressed optimism, stating, “I hope that all areas where pipelines have been laid will receive water soon.”
