Seraikela: Demonstrating that determination triumphs over disabilities, visually impaired students are appearing for the Intermediate examination with the help of Shruti Lekhak (scribe facility), an initiative by the government and education department.
Among them, Sushmita Sahu, a resident of Kudarsai village, Seraikela block, is writing her exams at NR+2 High School, Seraikela with scribe assistance. Despite losing her vision completely in childhood, Sushmita has pursued her studies at Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singhdev CM Utkrishta Vidyalaya, Seraikela with unwavering dedication. Her father, Kaviraj Sahu, runs a shop, while her mother, Seti Sahu, works as a school cook.
With support from resource teacher Narendra Prasad Singh and physiotherapist Pinky Chaki, Sushmita benefits from government schemes like the Swami Vivekananda Protsahan Swalamban Yojana, receiving a Rs 1000 monthly pension, a Rs 500 scout allowance and a Rs 500 reader allowance. Under Project Jyoti, she has also received digital literacy training, an Android talking mobile and a white cane to aid her education.
Another visually impaired student, Deepak Mahato from Rajnagar block, is also appearing for the exams at the same center with the Shruti Lekhak facility.
Seraikela Block Education Extension Officer Dinesh Kumar Dandapat extended his best wishes, stating, “These students are an inspiration, proving that no obstacle is too great when faced with determination and the right support.”
