Jamshedpur Valentine’s Day: Bajrang Dal activists drag couples at Jubilee Park

Jamshedpur, Feb 14: On Valentine’s Day, over 50 activists from the Bajrang Dal reached Jubilee Park to drive out couples. They not only harassed some but also targeted the youths. The activists raised slogans against what they claimed to be against Indian culture but also said that the youths must give tribute to Pulwama martyrs.

“We want parks to be more available for families and not lovers involved in indecent behavior. Today is a day to remember our martyrs and not to celebrate Valentine’s Day,” said an activist.  He also said that this is just a start and would run this campaign once in every month in areas like Jubilee Park, Hudco in Telco and Sir Dorabji Tata Park.

“This is a western culture which is flourishing in India but it will not be allowed to flourish here. We Sanatan Dharma followers are here to question such Hindu boys and girls not only on Valentine’s Day but every day when they see such couples in public, in order to save Hindutva,” he said.

Activists of the Kesari Seva Dal and Bajrang Dal jointly went around   different places  including Jubilee Park   and made couples understand Indian culture and customs.

The activists added, “Being an Indian, the land of Radha and Krishna, we support emotions but not make it public, especially at places often visited by families. We often get complaints of inappropriate behaviour by youngsters. Therefore, it’s not just moral policing but also telling the couples to stay away from consumerism.”

The activists later divided themselves in various groups to visit Hudco in Telco and Sir Dorabji Tata Park in Northern Town.

On the other hand, hotels, gift shops and florists did brisk business on the occasion of St. Valentine’s Day today. While gift shops were decorated on the theme of pink and red selling cards, teddy bears, watches, chocolates and other products, florists in Bistupur were busy catering to business orders.

Police had made elaborate arrangements to thwart any attempt of moral policing in the city by right wing outfits.

“We are not for moral policing. We will not allow anyone to take law into their hands. We have deployed an adequate number of police to ensure that there is no violence and harassment of couples,” a senior police officer said. Last year, the Valentine’s Day celebrations were peaceful here with police taking adequate steps.
