Jamshedpur: Two new Leprosy cases detected during Nutrition Month

Jamshedpur: A review meeting focusing on Nutrition Month (Poshan Maah) and leprosy eradication initiatives was held at the Community Health Center in Baharagora.
As part of the event, a dermatology camp was conducted where District Leprosy Consultant Dr. Rajeev Lochan Mahto examined 23 individuals suspected of having leprosy. Two new cases were confirmed, and free Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) was immediately provided to the patients.
The session was led by District Leprosy Elimination Officer and Nodal Officer Dr. Mrityunjay Dhaudiya, with the participation of Community Health Officers (CHOs) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs).
Dr. Dhaudiya outlined the plans for Poshan Maah, scheduled from 10th December 2024 to 10th January 2025, while also reviewing ongoing health programs such as vaccination campaigns, antenatal care for pregnant women, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) management, anemia reduction initiatives, and leprosy elimination efforts.
Dr. Mahto educated attendees on recognizing leprosy symptoms, such as numb patches on the skin, and stressed the importance of early medical consultation. He reassured participants that free leprosy treatment is available at government health facilities and discussed measures to prevent disabilities caused by untreated leprosy, including reconstructive surgery.
The camp also emphasized self-care practices and the use of tools like MCR footwear and self-care kits. Dr. Mahto further detailed incentive schemes for Sahiyas (community health workers) to encourage active participation in leprosy management programs.
Key attendees included Block Account Manager Shyam Mahapatra, Block Program Manager Durga Oraon, MPW Chandan Kumar Manna, and representatives from the Damian Foundation, including Duryodhan Bagti.
