Jamshedpur, Jan 8: More than two lakh people participated in ‘Dahre Tusu Parab’ (Tusu Parab on the Streets) under the banner of Brihad Jharkhand Kala Sanskriti Manch (BJKSM), on Sunday, January 8. The procession commenced from Mango Dimna Chowk and culminated at Sakchi Ambagan Maidan. The participants included the original Jharkhand tribals fro the home state and included tribals from West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The Kurmis accounted for 95 percent participation.

Although none was invited as guest in ‘Dahre Tusu Parab,’ many well-known politicians, leading women and men of the tribal community participated in the festival. The vibrant spirit of celebration was very much in evidence.

The participants marched along to the beat of traditional percussion instruments carrying the idols of Tusu on their heads. Since such an occasion was a first-time event, people out of curiosity came out on the roads and formed crowds to see Tusu festival being observed on the road. This resulted in severe traffic jams including on the vital Mango bridge and long and cumbersome queues vied for passage. This traffic mayhem persisted for hours thereby inconveniencing man and machine.

Former Silli MLA Amit Mahto, Jairam Mahto, Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto’s wife Usha Mahto, MP representative Sanjeev Kumar, BJP leader Prashant Kumar Poddar, Kurmi Sena founder Shailendra Mahto, several Kurmi organizations, TMC leader Pranab Mahto and others participated in the ‘Dahre Tusu Parab’ festivities.
According to one of the organizers, the purpose of organizing other festivals along with Tusu Parab under the banner of BJKSM was to give a message to the government that all Jharkhandi Parabs were celebrated in the state of Jharkhand as well as in some districts of Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and the entire Chhotanagpur Plateau. Dilip Kumar Mahto, Jairam Mahto, Phani Mahto, Chandan Mahto, Prakash Mahto, Prahlad Mahto and many other leaders of the tribal communities participated in this BJKMS organized ‘Dahre Tusu Parab.’
