Jamshedpur, Sept 24: Preparations for the Sarvjanik Durga Puja Committee’s grand pandal at Tuiladungri are in their final stages, with inauguration scheduled for September 26 at 8 p.m. by State Transport Minister Deepak Birua. This year’s pandal, themed around forest conservation, has been constructed entirely with natural and forest material, reflecting the tribal culture of Jharkhand.
General Secretary Dinesh Kumar said artisans from Bengal had intricately designed the pandal using tree bark, ropes, baskets, coconut husks and paddy. A striking feature was the pair of large hands at the entrance, symbolizing human responsibility towards protecting nature.
The idol of Ma Durga was majestic, with the Goddess seated on an enlarged lion that amplified the grandeur of the sculpture. Alongside the pandal, a fair had been set up with swings and decorative lighting to enhance the festive spirit.
Over the years, Tuiladungri had become known for its unique pandal themes, including earlier tributes to the Shanta Durga Temple of Goa, Naulakha Temple, basket artistry, and socially relevant messages. This year, the focus was on saving forests and promoting ecological balance.
To ensure smooth celebrations, the committee had installed CCTV cameras across the venue and issued volunteer badges for crowd management.
Committee leaders involved in preparations included Chief Patron Raju Giri, President Mithilesh Singh Yadav, General Secretary Dinesh Kumar, Licensee Kishore Kumar, Treasurer Sinu Rao, Vice President Prashant Giri, and several others who had worked extensively to shape the pandal into a cultural and spiritual attraction.
Durga Puja has been celebrated at this site since before independence, but since 1998, the event had gained recognition for its grandeur and creativity, making it a landmark celebration in Jamshedpur.
