Jamshedpur: Transporter Debu Das shot dead

Jamshedpur, March 24: Armed assailants gunned down Debu Das, a transporter, in Adityapur Industrial Area at Gamharia on Thursday, police said.

Das, who sustained multiple bullet wounds, was taken to Tata Main Hospital where he succumbed to critical injuries, sources said.

According to sources, the broad daylight murder took place near Mohit Udyog on the Tata-Kandra main road. The deceased set out of his home in the morning on his motorcycle when the criminals intercepted him and opened fire at him from close range. The criminals reportedly fired five bullets, one of which missed its target, sources said.

Cops recovered a bullet, one spent bullet shell and a motorcycle belonging to the deceased transporter from the crime scene.

Senior police officials rushed to the crime scene shortly after the news transpired. They looked for CCTV footage around the place to get clues about the shooters. They also spoke to the family members of the deceased to find out if they suspected anyone’s role in the killing in particular.

Sources said the deceased was the owner of several heavy vehicles which he used for his transport business.

Police officials said the killing could be the result of a gang war. They said the murder was a pre-planned one and claimed the case would be solved soon.
