Jamshedpur Transport department to crack down on school vehicle compliance

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, August 3: In response to safety concerns, the Transport Department is intensifying its scrutiny of school vehicles. The state’s Joint Transport Commissioner has instructed all District Transport Officers (DTOs) and Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs), including those in East Singhbhum, to ensure compliance with vehicle fitness, registration, insurance, and pollution norms.

Complaints have been lodged about school vehicles, including Maruti Vans, Tata Magic, and Auto Rickshaws, operating without valid fitness, insurance, or pollution certificates. Many of these vehicles, while used with parental consent, fail to meet safety standards and violate Motor Vehicle Rules.

To address these issues, the department will launch a campaign to inspect school vehicles. Vehicles lacking proper registration or fitness certificates will face registration cancellation. Overloaded vehicles will incur penalties, and those without insurance will have their registration revoked. The initiative aims to enhance the safety of schoolchildren and ensure all school vehicles adhere to legal requirements.
