Jamshedpur, Dec 28: A routine traffic check near Sai Mandir in Sonari turned tragic when a scooty driver, attempting to evade capture, hit a traffic policeman. The policeman sustained serious leg injuries and was admitted to TMH for treatment.
The incident occurred when police personnel were conducting ambush-style checks, hiding behind trees to catch violators. A minor on a scooty, riding without a helmet, lost control of the vehicle and struck the officer as he emerged to stop him.
The police apprehended the minor and his co-rider, and the entire incident was captured on CCTV. However, the practice of sudden ambush checks has drawn criticism. Locals questioned the method, calling it dangerous for both the officers and the public.
Authorities are expected to review the checking system to prevent similar incidents in the future.
