Police brings back breath analysers to check drunk driving
Jamshedpur, Dec 28: In order to ensure a peaceful New Year, the city police carried out vehicle checking drive in Mango on Tuesday evening and Wednesday.
There was a long jam of vehicles during the drive.
Anticipating huge crowd on the Jamshedpur roads on New year’s Eve, the city traffic police have planned elaborate traffic arrangements in the city.
Ahead of New Year, the police have restarted the breath analysing check in the city to detect drunk drivers.
On the directives of SSP Prabhat Kumar, traffic police has started a campaign against the bikers who indulge in rash driving. The campaign will continue till January 31. Traffic police are being deployed at various intersections.

District traffic police department is also keeping an eye on rash drivers and drunken drivers during the ongoing picnic season. This was observed on Wednesday by DSP Traffic Kamal Kishore who appealed to all citizens to strictly follow traffic norms and take safety measures to protect themselves and their families. Those driving bikes or riding pillion should wear helmets and car drivers should wear seat belts without fail, he said.
The DSP said additional police personnel would be deployed at various city places to man traffic and prevent road jams during the picnic season. He further said that the city traffic system would be further improved in the New Year.
“We will keep vigil on traffic violators with the help of CCTV cameras installed all over the city and take prompt action against them. Overspeeding, rough driving and drink driving are strictly prohibited. People are being made aware of the need for road safety to prevent road mishaps and fatalities,” said the DSP.
Meanwhile, Jamshedpur police today said that security will be beefed up in and around the city on the occasion of New Year celebrations. Extra forces have been deployed on picnic spots, restaurants, parks, malls so that people can welcome the New Year peacefully.
A total of 22 checking points have been set from Dimna and Burudih Dam in Ghatsila from the city for both the year end as well as the New Year celebration. Those found unmasked will be taken to task.
With the onset of winter, denizens of the district have started frequenting the picnic spots and different tourist’s destinations to enjoy their holidays. Places like Jubilee Park, Dimna Lake, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Hudco Dam in Telco and Kanderbera, NH 33 are the favourites.
