Jamshedpur Traffic police drive to streamline chaotic vehicular melee

Jamshedpur: As reported a fortnight earlier in The Avenue Mail, the chaotic state of traffic at Sakchi and Bistupur roundabouts, the police administration has brought about more than a semblance of sanity in vehicular movement at the Bistupur point but the same cannot be said about the Sakchi roundabout where �insanity� still prevails.

However, the traffic department has launched a drive to rid places of illogical parking and thus making way for clearing bottlenecks that continue to prevail even on the face of stern warnings.

One of the busiest routes, the Kalimati road which sees heavy traffic from the Sakchi roundabout, witnessed a no-nonsense drive by tough traffic cops on Thursday, December 20th evening, was a heartening sight for denizens who have to bear the brunt of the congestion problems on this route. During bottlenecks, two wheeler riders especially, try to push through the crowd of vehicles from right, left and centre and create more chaos in the already �frenzied� state of snail paced traffic.

Last evening, the traffic police towed away two and four wheelers parked irrationally close to the road. Many owners were fined and their vehicles were released after stern warnings. No sooner were the vehicles removed, the traffic on this �always awake� stretch of road, moved amazingly smoothly. This was a soothing development both, for the eyes and frayed nerves.

This drive continued today too in various other areas including the Straight Mile Road at the Sanjay Market where two wheelers are parked in a haphazard manner. The drive netted penalties as well as many bikes and scooters towed away to Sakchi Police Station where their care-a-damn owners will be penalized.

The launch of these essential checks is aimed at �taming� indecent vehicle owners by making them aware of the message of sane parking and lucid traffic flow. The work of the traffic department is indeed laudable and it should continue in right earnest. But how much longer will it take for the people to realize the positivity of this highly laudable move of the men in Khaki?
