Jamshedpur to promote sale of eco-friendly bags

Malls, restaurants to purchase from SHGs

Jamshedpur, September 1: Owners of shopping complex, restaurants, hotels operating in municipal areas of Jamshedpur were given information about environment friendly cloth, paper bags at a meeting held in Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) office on Friday.

The meeting chaired by deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri and attended by officials of civic bodies of Jamshedpur, Mango and Jugsalai also had exhibits of the paper and cloth bags made by  women Self Help Group and local NGOs .

Representatives of some shopping malls told that they collect clothes and paper bags from outside. In this context, the Deputy Commissioner said that he would hold a meeting with the owner of the shopping mall shopkeeper in the next three days to get complete information. The Deputy Commissioner informed the owners of shopping malls for setting up Vishwakarma stores. He said that at present at least five Vishwakarma stores will be opened in the shopping malls of urban areas in which the products made by self-help groups will be kept for exhibition and sale. This will be done so that such artisans and self-made handmade items can be promoted and self-help groups can get self-employment and income increased.

It is noteworthy that the main objective of the program is to provide space to the products manufactured by local Self Help Groups/ local federation in malls, hotels and restaurants located in urban areas.

The concerned civic bodies will direct all the mall, hotel and restaurant owners in their area to place the products manufactured by the Self Help Groups/Area Level Federation.
