Jamshedpur to host maiden Half-Marathon on November 24

21K offers Rs 10 lakh in prize money

Jamshedpur, October 24: Steel City is set to host its first-ever Half-Marathon (21 km) on November 24, 2024, as part of the ninth edition of the Jamshedpur Run. Themed ‘Run for Fitness, Run for Fun!’, the event will offer a variety of race categories catering to runners of all skill levels. The registration for the same has begun.

In addition to the Half-Marathon for seasoned athletes, the event will feature a 2-km family-friendly Anand Run, a 5-km run for beginners, and a 10-km challenge for intermediate runners. With a total prize pool of ₹10 lakhs, the Half-Marathon winner will receive ₹1 lakh, said Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel.

Speaking at a press conference held at the JRD Sports Complex on Thursday, Chaudhary shared, “This is the first time we are introducing the Half-Marathon, based on feedback from our running community. Jamshedpur has embraced running as a passion, and we expect over 6,500 participants on November 24.”

He added that route details will be announced soon, and a new website will be launched to facilitate easier registration and online payment for participants from across the country.

An Expo will also be held on November 22-23, offering special discounts for groups and families participating together. The event will focus on sustainability, with waste management initiatives taking place throughout.

In 2023, the Jamshedpur Run saw participation from over 5,700 runners from 18 states. Tata Steel continues to support fitness through its various running events, such as the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K Run and the Noamundi Run-a-thon.

Jamshedpur Run is a marquee event which is organised every year to instill the sense of fitness among the citizens of Jamshedpur. It witnesses participation from all age groups and provides a platform where people can rejuvenate and relish the experience.

Also present at the press meet were Vibhuti Adesara, Head, Sports Events and Training Centres, Tata Steel and Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports Excellence Centres and Sports, Tata Steel.
