Boasts of Rs 1 lakh prize money
Jamshedpur, March 13: Jharkhand State Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament will be organized by East Singhbhum District Chess Association (ESDCA) from March 15-18 at JRD Sports Complex, said Mukul Vinayak Choudhary, Chief Sports, Tata Steel and Vice President of ESDCA.
Addressing a press meet at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Monday, Choudhary stated that total prize money of Rs 1 lakh rupees will be up for grabs. The winner will receive cash prize of Rs 21,000 and the runner-up will get Rs 15,000. Top 21 players will be awarded cash prizes.
He informed that 160 players (120 men and 40 women) from nine districts including Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar, East Singhbhum, Ranchi, Seraikela, Lohardaga, Hazaribagh and West Singhbhum will participate.
Maximum of 54 players from East Singhbhum will be participating in the eight-round competition.
Rohan Vijay Shandilya (1913 rating points) of East Singhbhum is the top-seeded men and Ranchi’s Aditi Raj is the top-seeded women player (1379 rating points).
68-year-old Vijay Singh is the oldest player in the competition while seven-year-old Vinan Basak is the youngest.
Organisers informed that chief guest for the opening ceremony will be City SP Vijay Shankar and chief guest during the closing will be SSP Prabhat Kumar.
Also present at the press meet were Senior Manager Sports, Tata Steel Vibhuti Adesara, ESDCA general secretary NK Tiwari, Chief Arbiter Jayant Kumar Bhuyan and Chess coach Chandan Kumar Prasad.
