Jamshedpur, Dec 6: The East Singhbhum District Volleyball Association will host the 24th Senior State Volleyball Championship from December 16 to 19 at two venues — the Ramdas Bhatta Community Centre, Bistupur, and the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Men’s matches will be played at Ramdas Bhatta, while the women’s category will be held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
District Volleyball Association President M. Bhaskar Rao and Secretary R.K. Mishra shared the details during a press conference organised at the Ramdas Bhatta Centre on Saturday. They informed that around 20 teams are expected to compete in the men’s section and 15 teams in the women’s section, making it a major sporting event for the state.
Tata Steel VP Corporate Services, Chanakya Chaudhary, will inaugurate the championship. The finals are scheduled to take place at the Ramdas Bhatta Community Centre.
Based on performances in the tournament, the Jharkhand men’s and women’s teams will be selected for the 72nd Senior National Volleyball Championship, to be held in Varanasi from January 4. Before the team announcement, a training camp will be organised in Ranchi.
Officials including Amrik Singh, J. Arun Murthy, P. Vijay Kumar, Arshad Ali, Hareram Singh, Jitendra Mishra, Ashkeel Ahmed, Rakesh Mahato, Dildar Singh and R.P. Singh were also present.
