Jamshedpur/Chandil, July 10: A sudden lightning strike during an evening rain shower at Bhadudih’s weekly market in the Chandil police station area of Jharkhand resulted in three fatalities and left five others severely injured on Wednesday.
The incident occurred unexpectedly as shoppers were bustling through the market, catching many off guard. The deceased have been identified as Subodhra Majhi (35), his son Biresh Majhi (10), and Suku Mardi (32), all residents of Hamsada in the Chandil area.
Three other individuals – Gurupad Singh, Indrajit Singh, and Sugi Murmu (50) – sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at MGM Hospital. Their condition remains critical.

Local residents, along with AJSU Party’s central general secretary Harelal Mahato, responded swiftly to the emergency. Mahato provided his private ambulance to transport the injured to MGM Hospital. Despite the prompt medical attention, three of the victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
In a related incident, two individuals who were grazing bulls in the vicinity also suffered minor burns from the lightning strike. They received immediate medical care at a private clinic in Chilgu and were subsequently discharged.
