Seraikela, Nov 27: A series of drowning incidents occurred in Seraikela on Wednesday, claiming the lives of three individuals, including two women. The first incident took place at around 6:30 AM at the Jagannath Temple Ghat on the Kharkai River. Ashish Kamila, a 32-year-old resident of Thethrisai in Seraikela, went to the river to take a bath but tragically drowned. Family members revealed that Ashish had a history of epileptic seizures, and it is believed that he suffered an attack while bathing, causing him to fall into the water. Despite the water at the site being only about one and a half feet deep, Ashish was unable to recover, leading to his drowning. Local BJP leader Sanad Acharya reached the spot and alerted the police and ambulance. With the help of local residents, the body was retrieved from the river and taken to Sadar Hospital for postmortem. Afterward, the body was handed over to his grieving family.
The second drowning incident occurred around 9:00 AM at a pond in Pandra village under Pandra Panchayat. Rekha Sardar, 28, and Dukhi Sardar, 33, both residents of Sardar Tola, went to bathe in the pond. One of the women slipped, and the other attempted to rescue her, but both ended up in deep water. Despite the efforts of local villagers to pull them out, both women drowned. The police were immediately informed, and with the assistance of the villagers, the bodies were recovered. The bodies were later taken to Sadar Hospital for postmortem, and after the procedure, they were returned to the families for final rites.
