Jamshedpur, May 31: In compliance with a High Court directive, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) embarked on the third day of its campaign against map deviation in Sakchi. Amid partial protest, the 5th floor of the Taj building, situated at Holding Number – 30, SNP Area, Sakchi, was sealed by SM Sabir and others, legal heirs of late Rabia Biwi. Additionally, shops constructed in the basement were demolished during the operation.
Due to incomplete proceedings on Thursday, the campaign extended into Friday, with anticipation of potential protests prompting the deployment of police personnel alongside SDO Parul Singh, Jamshedpur CO, and JNAC Special Officer Mukesh Kumar, along with engineers MK Pradhan and Sanjay Singh.
Despite challenges in accessing the basement, shops were razed with the assistance of laborers. Protests erupted from the building owners against the demolition of the under-construction 5th floor of the Taj building, claiming they had not received prior notice from JNAC. However, officials asserted that the construction exceeded approved plans, warranting intervention.
JNAC officials clarified that while parking arrangements were mandated for shops and godowns in the basement, excessive construction beyond approved parameters could not be permitted. Subsequently, the construction on the 5th floor was sealed, and efforts, aided by Jusco, were initiated to dismantle the under-construction segment. Shops remaining in the basement are also slated for demolition.
Furthermore, similar actions were taken against establishments in Chandra Center and Shatabdi Tower, among others, where shops and godowns in the basement were demolished with labor support. The case concerning map deviation in the JNAC area is scheduled for a hearing on June 13, with the Dhalbhum SDO expected to submit a response prior. Continuous inspections by the SDO underscore the on-going vigilance over building regulations in the region.
