Jamshedpur: Surya Mandir committee oppose swimming pool and basketball court

Jamshedpur, August 29. The Sun Temple Committee has lodged a protest objecting to the construction work of the basketball court and swimming pool at the Chhath Ghat of the Sun Temple in the Sankh Maidan of the Sun Temple complex located in Sidhgora.

On Tuesday, a delegation of the Sun Temple Committee met Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri in this regard. The delegation led by Bhupendra Singh, chairman of the Sun Temple Committee, submitted a memorandum in this regard and urged not to start the construction work in the Sun Temple premises. It was informed in the memorandum that Chhath Ghat pond and Sankh ground were constructed in the Sun Temple premises in the year 2003 in the backdrop of public demand and local spiritual and cultural needs.

Since then, the rituals of Chhath Mahaparva and spiritual discourses and cultural and religious programs are being organized continuously in the Chhath Ghat pond.

It was informed that the Sun Temple Committee has information that a basketball court is being planned at Shankh Maidan and a swimming pool is being constructed at Chhath Ghat pond, which is completely unfair and against the religious, cultural and spiritual sentiments of the people.
