Jamshedpur: Surprise inspection at MGM Hospital reveals operational lapses

Outsourced Personnel to be on duty on Sundays: DC

Jamshedpur, July 23: Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav, accompanied by Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar and Sub-Divisional Officer Dhalbhum Piyush Sinha, conducted an unannounced inspection at MGM Medical Hospital, the largest government hospital in the Kolhan division. The surprise visit was prompted by repeated complaints of mismanagement and aimed to assess the health facilities and ongoing infrastructure construction works.

During the inspection, several areas of concern were identified. It was observed that the outsourced personnel were not present on duty. In response to this, the hospital superintendent was immediately instructed to ensure that outsourced personnel are available to serve on Sundays as well. Deputy Commissioner Jadhav stressed that healthcare is an essential service, and given the high patient load from all three districts of Kolhan division, it is crucial for the hospital to operate at full capacity on Sundays to provide adequate care to patients. Moreover, the storekeeper was also found absent due to it being a Sunday, leading to the directive to assign someone else to manage the store on Sundays.

Emphasizing the significance of continuous service, the person in charge of registering the Ayushman card was mandated to register cards even on Sundays. The Deputy Commissioner interacted with patients and their attendants in the emergency ward to assess their satisfaction with the facilities provided by the hospital management. Feedback was sought on various aspects, including the quality of food, cleanliness, regular change of bed linens, and frequency of doctor visits.

During the inspection, areas with poor cleanliness were noted, prompting orders to enhance cleanliness protocols in the hospital premises. Furthermore, the ongoing infrastructure construction works were reviewed, and issues reported by the executive agency were acknowledged, with assurances of appropriate action.

Addressing the deteriorating condition of several buildings on the hospital campus, the Deputy Commissioner directed for their prompt demolition. Additionally, instructions were given to form a committee to conduct an auction of obsolete furniture items, stretchers, and equipment that have become unusable.

Speaking to the press representatives after the inspection, Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav highlighted the district administration’s efforts to monitor MGM Hospital more effectively. He mentioned that the inspection team currently reports to his office twice daily, and improvements in the hospital’s arrangements have been noticed. He further expressed the commitment to continuously monitor and enhance the healthcare facilities at MGM Hospital.

The surprise inspection has brought to light operational lapses at MGM Hospital and has spurred authorities to take immediate corrective action. The district administration aims to improve healthcare standards and ensure the well-being of patients in the region.
