Jamshedpur students visit NML for hands-on science experience

Jamshedpur, July 4: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, organized a special laboratory visit for school students and teachers on July 4, under the CSIR-Jigyasa Virtual Laboratory Project. The initiative aimed to promote scientific awareness by providing students with a real-time experience of research and innovation.

A total of 78 students and 4 teachers from Gamharia English School participated in the visit. The program began with an inaugural session, where Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML, welcomed the attendees and highlighted CSIR’s 82 years of contributions to national development through technology and innovation.

Dr. Sarmista Palit Sagar, Head of IMDC, explained the significance of CSIR-NML and its ongoing research and development activities. Dr. Animesh Jana, Senior Scientist, IMDC, elaborated on the objectives and various initiatives of the Jigyasa Program.

The students were taken on guided tours of several research labs including AAC, Brass Melting, Urban Ore-Recycling, CREEP, and NDT. Demonstrations of DIY science kits were also held to spark curiosity and engagement among the young minds.

A popular science lecture on “Energy Literacy” was delivered by Dr. Animesh Jana, which was well received by the students. The program concluded with a vote of thanks and group photographs.

The visiting students and teachers expressed great satisfaction with the exposure they received and appreciated the hands-on experience of scientific processes and research at CSIR-NML.
