Jamshedpur, June 24: Hundreds of students protested in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jamshedpur today under the banner of Intermediate Bachao Sangharsh Samiti. The students took out a procession and demanded the withdrawal of the decision to stop intermediate studies.

The protesting students said that the government has issued a notice to remove the intermediate section from degree colleges without making any alternative arrangements, due to which the future of thousands of students is hanging in the balance.

Intermediate studies have been going on for years in institutions like Jamshedpur Cooperative College, Workers College, Women’s College, and Graduate College. But recently the government has issued an order to end intermediate studies from these degree colleges. Students say that now they are being asked to enroll in some other school, while there are no proper intermediate colleges available for every student in the entire area.

A student involved in the protest said, “We are studying here, we are being removed suddenly. There is no other intermediate college, where will we go?”

Sangharsh Samiti member Sumit Pal said, “About 5000 students are enrolled in Intermediate in Jamshedpur. In such a situation, it is unjust to remove them without prior preparation.” He appealed to the administration to first make alternative arrangements, only then any kind of change should be implemented.
Parents say that this decision of the government has put the children of middle class and poor families in trouble. Education experts also believe that if options are not given during the transition period, it can become a big obstacle in the education of students.
