Jamshedpur �Strong Man� Subrata Dutta passes away

Jamshedpur, May 8: Power Lifter of international repute, Subrata Dutta, popularly known as Gorada, passed away at his Contractors� Area residence in Bistupur at 5 pm on Thursday, May 7 after suffering a massive heart attack. He was the first Arjuna Awardee in Power Lifting category. He has a host of records that fetched him international and national awards and recognitions. Subrata Dutta was 73 years old.

He was honoured with the Hall of Fame trophy among his innumerable awards. He was the general secretary of Power Lifting Federations of India and Asia and played a leading role in organizing the event at national and international levels. Subrata Dutta had the rare distinction of being the National Champion in all three events of the Iron sports viz Power Lifting, Weight lifting and Body Building.

Condolence messages are pouring in from international federation chiefs for Gorada whose contribution to cultural pursuits was also well known.

Local film producer Sandip Banerjee in association with famed Kolkata filmmaker Tathagata Bhattacherjee who was the technical director for the project that was cinematographed by Abhishek Ganguly with an entire Tollywood technical unit had made a documentary film on the legendry Subrata Dutta entitled, �Power Icon�  a few years ago.
